Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

Great Missenden lies 35 miles northwest of London,

6 miles from High Wycombe and 10 miles from Aylesbury...

This historic British village is set in a stunning area of outstanding natural beauty, surrounded by rolling valleys and beech woods. The area is peppered with ancient churches (including a medieval abbey) and higgledy-piggledy streets with listed buildings. It’s sleepy chocolate-box, village atmosphere, has been the backdrop for many films and TV shows including Midsummer Murders and (for those of us old enough to remember), some of the famous Hammer House of Horror movies!

There have been many notable residents including two former Prime Ministers - Harold Wilson and Clement Attlee. Actor Geofrey Palmer currently lives here with his wife, as does model-turned TV Chef, Sophie Dahl and her musician husband, Jamie Cullum.

Robert Louis Stevenson author of Treasure Island and (Sophie Dahl’s famous grandfather) the author and world war two spy, Roald Dahl wrote many well-known children’s stories here. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda are set in Great Missenden. Although children are not allowed at your party, perhaps another adult could accompany them on a visit to the museum dedicated to this wonderful author.
